An early start to begin another internet experience. Sadly, after a short while Ian discovered that again we were hindered by a firewall issue preventing the transfer of data from bandit, Ian's server in Birmingham, to us in Australia. Instead of updating the website we ordered a couple of dive computers to be shipped to the UK.
Ian also had me cut his hair again this morning to 2.5 millimetres all over! He looks more and more like Duncan Goodhew every time I take the clippers to his head! He's given himself a new nickname, Plucked Turkey, which suits!
After successfully acquiring evidence of my working rights as a working holiday maker temporary resident in my passport from the DIMIA office in Currie Street we grabbed a cake and hot drink from Hudsons Coffee and ventured into another cyber cafe to carry on with our journals. 2 hours later I had completed another six days of entries and was ready for some lunch. We walked up the main road in search of digital mini DV tapes, batteries, journals and camera film to replenish our stocks and Ian refused to let us eat until we had successfully bought all of the items on our list.
At 15:45 we sat down to eat and thought some more about our next few days. This morning we booked ourselves onto a supreme wine tour to the Barossa Valley which should take up most of tomorrow. We have now found a cyber cafe that allows us to download html files, talk to ftp and edit html files for a block sitting of AUD 20 for 5 hours, which is acceptable. It's a pity there is an annoying arcade machine in the same shop though... We are discussing whether or not to fork out a lot of money to go to Kangaroo Island and how we will travel back to Sydney when we leave Adelaide and South Australia.
We made our way to the next cyber cafe and completed a further 5 hours of html editing. After 30 minutes the administator logged me off as I was midway through updating a file and in guilt ridden fashion, largely encouraged by me, he gave me a free half hour internet usage which, when it came to pay, actually equated to 1 hour 30 minutes. Cheers then! So, I've managed to update my journal to 10 January 2003 and sent a few e-mails too. During our time online today the UK has woken up and the company with whom I placed an order this morning have already confirmed that they have despatched my order which is wonderful news.
We completed our day with supper in a late night cafe catching them just before they closed and dined on chocolate fudge cake and hot chocolate. I think I may be overdosing on chocolate... The waitress was particularly dozy and we were very surprised and relieved to get our order correctly, still we did have to repeat it three times...
