Another visit to the nurse for my final injection for the trip, Tetanus/Diphtheria combined, which means I am now ready for my departure as far as all the inoculations are concerned. If any of you reading this journal are considering following in our footsteps, you should be aware that this particular trip has determined the following course of vaccinations given over a period of nine weeks:
Hepatitis B - course of three injections
Meningitis A & C - combined injection
Polio - oral immunisation
Yellow Fever
Rabies - course of three injections
Japanese B Encephalitis - course of two injections
Hepatitis A & Typhoid - combined injection
Tetanus & Diphtheria - combined injection
Aware that some of our flight tickets had arrived at Thomas Cook we wandered back into the shop at lunchtime to complete the booking forms and collect the tickets. We took the opportunity to enquire about purchasing a Visit South Pacific Air Pass which led to a whole new adventure with the sales consultant. We informed her that we would like to go to Tonga during the time we are due to spend in New Zealand. Another phone call to Flightsavers and we found that we could obtain a return flight to Rarotonga for a reasonable cost. The trouble is, Tonga, in the South Pacific, and Rarotonga, one of the fifteen Cook Islands, have some considerable expanse of Pacific Ocean between them...and therefore our wires were once again crossed. Trying our hardest to squash a bout of impending hysterics Ian and I made our leave for another day.
Since that visit I have searched online for information regarding Rarotonga and so far my findings indicate some rather spectacular scuba diving so I'm beginning to be quite tempted by a visit to the island...
