Obviously it was a trick message and we were really awoken at 5:30am. There must be some method in their madness but I can't see it, partly as this is really early and sleepy divers are not at thier best and partly because the dive site chosen for us is to semi-drift along the outside of a lagoon wall that is going to be in shadow because the sun is so low. This adds to the impression that ProDive aren't catering to our (the certified divers') needs.
We should have moved to another site after this dive but for whatever reason didn't, the tide has changed and we dive the other side of the lagoon entrance. Hmm. We do move the boat a not very large distance and dive another site before lunch. One thing that has been consistent is the poor visibility. I don't know if you can still blame ex-cyclone Beni for this, on the other hand it's hard to believe the Great Barrier Reef would have such poor visibility in general.
There's a big gap before the next (a night) dive as the boat has to chug back into the Whitsunday Islands. Here we use our lycra anti-stinger suits for the first time. It looks like an SBS get together. They drop us at the edge of "The Maze" where, not hard to predict, we get thoroughly lost. Sadly, we have to swim back to the boat.
