A lazy start (9am) for a trip into Arusha for whatever we needed for the next few days -- mostly liquids as we were heading into Ngorongoro and the Serengeti and, as Paul notes, for some of the most expensive game parks in Africa, the facilities are atrocious. For example, no showers in the camp in the Serengeti, maybe one in Ngorongoro.
In the meanwhile, seconds before the bacon and sausages are served Paul notes the Kili is naked. Bastard!
We grab a sandwich and our cameras and drip pork fat back up the road to a good view point. We take some good
shots but any cloud means we're not 3%ers. Maybe tomorrow.
In Arusha, DHL quote us Tsh 47,000 (about US$47) to send 1kg to the UK (outside London). We go to the cashpoint and extract Tsh 75,000 for our requirements. We don't want too many as Tsh are pretty worthless. On the way back to DHL we spot a FedEx van. On enquiring they quote Tsh 28,000 for 0.5kg [which is closer to our weight]. Despite being a touch over [0.5kg] the man was so pleased for our business (suspicious?) that he let us off the surplus.
All well and good but we're now 22,000 in excess of what we need. I'm under orders not to spend it at the bar... A slow hour in the Internet cafe at standard rates (Tsh 1,000 per hour) rather than Georgies claimed Tsh 500 -- obviously the man isn't Georgie's mate anymore.
Back to Masai camp for a lazy afternoon, mostly watching over the cameras as they recharged [in the bar]. A final meal from Paul, everything else is either game drive (we have a cook) or own expense. A fine BBQ chicken affair. Sadly my bowel made the emergency expulsion manoeuver.
